Visual Artist: Sculpture / Pottery
About the artist:
Bio and Resume’ for JK Moyles My current work is a combination of hand building, wheel thrown and sculpted clay. I began a major in Art many years ago at San Jouquin Delta College in Stockton, Ca. I eventually changed my major to business and did not practice in the Arts again until 2003 at which time I studied under Master Potter Bob Hasselle in South Carolina. I have had my own studio since 2005. My focus is on color and texture in Utilitarian Art. I have always enjoyed the outdoors and having my hands in dirt, whether it be my green thumb with plants or my love of clay. I was inspired to the “Earth Arts” when I was young, growing up in the mountains of North Carolina, I was surrounded by natural art as well as natural artists from a very young age. I moved away from the arts as a young adult but never lost the passion or desire to be involved in some way. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to become reconnected with this long time love and am now able to explore my connection to the natural world through Clay. My pieces are very abstract as I believe that most of life is. I choose to use color and texture in my pieces to show the many different layers and intense designs that we see in the world everyday. I like to consider my work “Functional Art” as all of it serves a purpose and is utilitarian. It can also be enjoyed as Art on your mantle or as a centerpiece on a table. I hope that you enjoy utilizing my work as much as I enjoy creating it. I am a member of the Carolina Clay Matters Guild, Fort Mill Artists Guild as well as having been a featured artist in the SC Welcome Center brochure for “38 Artist Studios in the Olde English District. I relocated to Bozeman, Montana for a brief period in 2009 and 2010 and am still a featured artist in two galleries there. My studio is now located in Charlotte, NC.
