    About the artist:

    Alyssa Wood grew up in Richmond, VA and Indianapolis, IN. She studied art at UNC-Chapel Hill and Penland School for Crafts (with Cynthia Bringle) and worked as a studio assistant to Cary Esser, now at Kansas City Art Institute. She makes sculptural and drawn ceramic tiles as well as mixed media drawings. Her work plays on themes of home, ritual, and time. Wood’s work has been included in exhibitions at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Janette Kennedy Gallery in Dallas, Artspace in Raleigh and Richmond, VA, Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, and The Clay Studio in Philadelphia. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Ragdale Foundation (Lake Forest, IL) and an affiliate artist at McColl Center for Visual Art. She has been awarded a McKnight Foundation residency through the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis and a Regional Artist Project Grant through the Arts and Science Council of Charlotte, NC. In 2010, she was named as a finalist for the Lydon Emerging Artist Program (LEAP) Award through the Society for Contemporary Craft, Pittsburgh, PA.
