At Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, we create exceptional theatre experiences, inspiring generations to explore the wonder of their world.
Children’s Theatre of Charlotte is a national leader among theatres for young audiences, placing equal emphasis on professional productions and innovative educational initiatives. As the largest and most comprehensive professional theatre company in North Carolina devoted to serving youth, Children’s Theatre of Charlotte is considered an integral part of the theatre and arts education landscape of the Southeast. Annually serving more than 300,000 young people and families, we’re dedicated to developing the potential in all young people, maintaining strong artistic professionalism and serving a diverse audience ethnically, economically and geographically.
Each season, we mount productions for public and school audiences and provide educational programming at our facility and satellite locations throughout Mecklenburg County. Our Resident Touring Company takes the magic of live theatre to primarily rural areas throughout the Southeast. Designing initiatives with our county’s students in mind, Children’s Theatre of Charlotte and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools have been programmatic partners for more than 30 years. In-school programs place specialists in classrooms to use drama as a vehicle for teaching core curricula subjects and after-school enrichment programs take theatre instruction to students across the county.
We subsidize two-thirds of ticket costs for our school audiences, making live theatre a viable option for all of our region’s students. Through our Community Involvement Program we provide ticket and class scholarships for underserved young people and conduct no-cost theatre arts programming in community sites and shelters.
From stage to classroom, our work is supported by a staff of professional artists, educators and administrators to ensure it is of the highest caliber and relevance.
