EDUCATION STANDARDS

NC Standard Course of Study:

R8 – Delineate and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, including the validity of the reasoning as well as the relevance and sufficiency of the evidence: Use deductive reasoning skills when evaluating written and oral testimony and comparing it to physical evidence at the crime scene to draw conclusions about the crime.
W1- Write argument to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relative and sufficient evidence. Present findings in your case using both testimonial and physical evidence to persuade a jury of your peers.
SL4- Present information, findings and supporting evidence such that listeners can follow the line or reasoning and the organization, development, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. Solve the crime scenes by presenting findings that establish motive and opportunity while linking physical evidence analyzed in the lab to a suspect.

NC Essential Standards:

4.P.2- Understand the composition and properties of matter before and after they undergo a change or interaction. Observe and identify the clues that a chemical reaction took place when testing blood samples, extracting DNA and performing Kastle- Meyer tests. 5.P.2- Understand the interactions of matter and energy and the changes that occur. Understand how physical evidence can be contaminated by environmental conditions and human collection errors. Execute 4 step crime scene protocol when using evidence collection techniques. 5.L.3- Understand why organisms differ from or are similar to their parents based on the characteristics of the organism, Examine fingerprints, DNA, hair and blood types and discuss the similarities/uniqueness between populations and individuals. Distinguish between individual and class evidence.

Cancellation Policy

Patricia Stegura is not liable for failure to teach on the scheduled date(s) in the event of severe illness, inclement weather or circumstances beyond her control. In such cases, she will make every attempt to make alternative arrangements to reschedule during the academic calendar year. Sponsors are responsible for 50% of contracted fees if program dates are canceled, except for weather or uncontrollable circumstances.
