5-12.R.7 – Integrate and evaluate content presented in diverse formats and media, including visually and quantitatively, as well as in words. Students will evaluate and select from multiple images and explain why they chose their image using photographic terminology.
5-12.SL.1 – Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher led) with diverse partners on grade topics and texts, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly. Students will be asked to work independently to apply interpretations of photographic elements, then participate in groups and dyads to implement the elements in their own photography.
5-12.SL.2 –Summarize a written text read aloud or information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally. Students will select images to present and use photographic terms to describe before creating their own images based on a selection of at least one of the concepts.
V.1 Use the language of visual arts to communicate effectively. In the first class, students will be asked to convey beauty via imagery. In the second portion, students will create their own image to communicate a specific message.
V.2 Apply creative and critical thinking skills to artistic expression. Students will be asked to apply photographic elements to produce their own version of previously taken images. In the second class, they will be challenged to select and apply elements previously discussed to incorporate into their own images.
TT.1 Use technology and other resources for assigned tasks. Session two of this residency makes great use of technology in the classroom as the students create their own images
