Dancing Histories

Program Description
Dancing Histories is a 3-5 day in-person OR virtual creative dance residency for grades K-12 that studies a pivotal historical event through movement and collaborative dance making. Classroom teachers and teaching artist will work together identify an area of focus drawn from current classroom curriculum.

School Hours
Multipurpose room or classroom with desks pushed to the side so students can have space to move freely. If the virtual option is selected, access to a large screen or smart board is also required.
Schools
3-5 day residency = $900 – $1200 per classroom
EDUCATION STANDARDS
R 6 Assess how point of view or purpose shapes the content and styles of a text.
(Dancing Histories participants will assess how endeavoring to create movement inspired by a historical event influences the content and visual style of the dance.)
W 5 Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach. (Dancing Histories participants will apply this same process of creating and revising in dance-making; working individually and in collaboration.)
SL1 Prepare for and participate effectively in a range of conversations and collaborations with diverse partners, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively. (Dancing Histories participants will develop collaborative team building skills while creating duets and small group dances.)

Cancellation Policy
50% of the total engagement fee if cancelling within 30 days of the booking
100% of the total engagement fee if cancelling within 7 days of the booking
In case of inclement weather or other unforeseen situations SCDP will work with the school to reschedule residency activities.
