Space / technical requirements:

Transit provides all sound gear needed for assembly performances, residencies, and workshops, including speakers, a sound board, and microphones. Schools are asked to provide the following: 1) one six-foot folding table; 2) access to reliable power outlets and 3) at least twelve bottles of water


Transit is available for assembly performances, residencies, and workshops throughout all of North Carolina.

Fees / Ticketing:

Per Performance: $1200 + $150 travel fee. 2 Performances, Same Day and School: $1850 + $150 travel fee. 3 Performances, Same Day and School: $2500 + $150 travel fee. Per Performance, Same Day, Different School: $1200 + $150 travel fee

Through active listening, students discern the similarities and differences between all-vocal music and instrumental music, and learn how to creatively translate popular songs to voices-only version

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.L.3 Apply knowledge of language to understand how language functions in different contexts, to make effective choices for meaning or style, and to comprehend more fully when reading or listening. Students will learn how to utilize basic phonemes and letter components to create beatbox and vocal percussion sounds and rhythms. Additionally, students will learn that similar sounds, when combined with varying pitches, can be used to imitate instrument sounds.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RST.11-12.7 – Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of (technical) information presented in diverse formats and media (e.g., quantitative data, video, multimedia) in order to address a question or solve a problem. Students will learn the purpose and function of various technological tools used to create and enhance a live a cappella performance. Using what they’ve learned, they will hypothesize which of these tools and techniques are necessary for recreating the specific sounds they hear in an original song.

K-5.TT.1 – Use technology tools and skills to reinforce classroom concepts
and activities. transit will demonstrate various pieces of sound technology and how they are used to create instrumental sounds as well as vary the volume and blend of individual voices. Altogether, demonstrations will enhance the understanding of the science of sound (as it pertains to singing).

2.P.1 – Understand the relationship between sound and vibrating objects. transit will discuss, in age-appropriate detail, the science of sound as it pertains to singing, and the technology we use to create and enhance our unique style of music. Discussion will specifically include how sound waves vary between higher- and lower-pitched sounds as well as how different types of speakers work to convey those sounds to our audiences.

K-8/B/I/P/A.MR.1 – Understand the interacting elements to respond to music and music performances. transit outlines and demonstrates the different qualities and voice range placement of the different voice parts used to create a cappella music. Students will hear varying timbres, tempos, pitches, and dynamics, and will be amazed at how all can be enhanced and amplified using our sound technology.
