After-School Programs: 4 PM – 5:30 PM 

Length of program: One full day of hands-on workshops of 45-60 minutes each; a 3 day residency or after-school program with 45-60 minutes sessions.
Space / technical requirements:

 For hands-on workshops, residencies or after-school programs: a classroom or similar space large enough to accomodate up to 25 students, plus a teacher, seated in semi-circles or rows: projector screen and document camera to display music to be played. (Optional piano or keyboard)


 Charlotte-Mecklenburg county and surrounding areas.

Fees / Ticketing:

 A) A full day of hands-on Workshops with violins provided for up to 25 students per class and a teacher: $800

B) Three-day residencies with violins provided for up to 25 students per class and a teacher: 2 classes-$600; 3 classes $900; 4 classes – $1200; 5 classes -$1500.

C) Three-day after-school program with violins provided for up to 10 students and a teacher per 60 minute session: $300 





NC Standard Course of Study:

 R4  Interpret words and phrases as they are used in a text and analyze how specific word choices shape meaning or tone.  In our program, students will interpret words used for dynamic levels as they are used in a musical composition and analyze how specific word choices shape the meaning of degrees of loudness and softness.

R5  Analyze the structure of text, including how specific sentences, paragraphs, and larger portions of the text (e.g. a section, chapter, scene, or stanza) relate to each other and the whole.  In our program students will analyze the structure of a musical composition, including how specific musical elements of rhythm, pitch, and larger portions of music (e.g. measure, phrase, contour, A/B form) relate to each other and the whole.

R7  Integrate and evaluate content presented in diverse media and formats, including visually and quantitatively, as well as words.  Students will read and perform music that is presented visually and respond to musical notation using words to count rhythms and name notes. 

NC Essential Standards:

 5.ML.1.1  Illustrate independence and accuracy while singing and playing instruments within a group or ensemble.

5.ML.1  Apply the elements of musical techniques in order to sing and play music with accuracy and expression.

5.ML.2.3  Apply understanding of standard symbols and traditional terms for dynamics, tempo, articulation, rhythm, meter, and pitch when reading and notating music.
