MARTHA CONNERTON Director of Kinetic Works Dance, has performed with ballet and modern dance companies in New York, Minneapolis, Louisville, Seattle and toured internationally.  She has choreographed over 80 works for ballet, modern dance, opera, musical theater, film, TV, commercials and multidisciplinary collaborations.  Martha has received grants and fellowships from numerous public agencies and private foundations.

Martha was a Teaching Artist for Lincoln Center Institute in New York (1989-1993). She served as Director of Education for North Carolina Dance Theatre and Director of DancePlace, the Official School of North Carolina Dance Theatre (1993-1996). She has been on the Arts Education touring rosters for North and South Carolina; Raleigh/Wake and Fayetteville/Cumberland County since 1993.  She is also a senior Teaching Artist for the Blumenthal Education Institute in Charlotte and is a member of the South Carolina Center for Art Education.

She formed Martha Connerton/Kinetic Works in 2000 which enabled her to expand her curriculum integration offerings from residencies to assembly performances.

KINETYX DANCE ENSEMBLE, an educational branch of Kinetic Works Dance is a 4-member modern dance ensemble that performs exclusively in schools, integrating dance with Math, Science, Language Arts and Social Studies.

KINETIKids Artist Residencies bring dance into the classroom, teaching core academics through the process of dancemaking.

KINETICWorkshops for Teachers bring Ms. Connerton to schools and conferences as a consultant/specialist in curriculum integration.

Martha Connerton/Kinetic Works is on the Arts Education and Touring Rosters for the North and South Carolina Arts Councils, United Arts Council of Raleigh/Wake County,  Durham Arts Council CAPS Program, Arts Council of Fayetteville-Cumberland County and the Carrboro, NC Arts Council.  The company receives annual artistic programming and educational grants from the NC Arts Council and the Arts and Science Council.

KINETIKids One-Day Live Workshop with Active Learning Virtual Performances

Program description

LIVE! KINETIKids Workshops with Follow-Up Performance Video

Budget friendly with deep learning impact.

Fee:  $450 for 1-3 classes. $650 for 4-5 classes (includes classroom handbook and video link)

Needs:  Classroom or multi-purpose room free of obstructions.  1 Table, 2-3 chairs, electrical outlets, dry erase board or chart paper on stand.

KINETIKids Workshops are designed to bring movement into the teaching of academic curriculum and aesthetic literacy.  Each activity based workshop is paired with a corresponding performance video from Kinetic Works repertoire.  It also comes with a pdf handbook that includes dance vocabulary,  curriculum based activities and information about the performance.  You can print this and keep it in your media center for teachers to use forever.

Schools can choose from the workshop menu below and select the  grade level you want to participate.   Martha Connerton will conduct a one-hour workshop for up to five classes per day.

Upon booking the workshop you will receive a link to a related performance video.  It can be used as a follow up to enhance the workshop experience and to share with your entire school in your own time.

KINETIKids Workshops are in high demand throughout the Carolinas, largely due to the magic touch Ms. Connerton has with students, keeping them engaged at every moment through her unique classroom management skills.

1) Movin’ Into Math: Creative Movement and Choreography skills are explored while learning concepts relating to math concepts in geometry, patterns, numeric equations, directional and positional terms, diagrams and how these apply to dance.

Comes with a classroom workbook and link to the video of KINETYX Active Learning Performance: Movin’ Into Math.  Compatible with curriculum for grades K-6.

2) Science in Motion: Creative Movement and Choreography skills are explored while learning concepts relating to science concepts in Bio Mechanics, Life Cycles, Laws of Motion, Ecosystems and how these apply to dance.

Comes with a classroom workbook and link to the video of KINETYX Active Learning Performance: Science in Motion.  Compatible with curriculum for grades 3-8.

3) Around the World: Creative Movement, Storytelling and Choreography skills are explored while learning concepts relating to the worlds cultural lifestyles, customs, geography, and history.

Comes with a classroom workbook and link to the video of KINETYX Active Learning Performance: Around the World in 60 Minutes.  Compatible with curriculum for grades K-6.
