R.1 — Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it. There are several mime and storytelling sketches in this show which will require students to pay close attention to details, interpret facial expressions and body language, and make inferences in order to follow the story line and predict what may happen next. SL.1 — Prepare for and participate effectively in a range of conversations and collaborations with diverse partners, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively. In this show, students will be taught (in their seats) several mime illusions, including the wall, tug-of-war and blowing up a balloon. Trent will demonstrate how these illusions form the basis of a simple mime sketch. One student will be brought onto stage to perform an improvised duet with Trent in which he/she will collaborate and “converse” in mime and build the narrative. Other students can try this with partners after the show. Students are also encouraged to perform one of these sketches later for their parents. SL.2 — Integrate and evaluate information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally. This show integrates gesture, facial expression and body language with words, music and sound effects to communicate its stories and ideas. Students will be required to interpret these modes of communication in order to make sense of the various narratives and themes.
Arts Education>Theatre Arts>K-8 K-5.C.1.1 — Use non-verbal expression to communicate movement elements. This show is all about non-verbal expression. The show models the creation of characters of various ages and physicalities, and expressing varying emotions. Students will also learn several mime techniques. Arts Education>Theatre Arts>K-8 K-5.C .2.1 — Use dramatic play to improvise stories and situations. Improvisation is demonstrated onstage with a student volunteer. The study-guide offers suggestions for improvised scenes that students can try in the classroom. Arts Education>Theatre Arts>K-8 K-5.C.2.2 — Use dramatic play to re-enact stories from texts read aloud. The show includes one or two stories that are performed in mime and spoken text. Students are encouraged to stage their own story-theatre sketches.
There is no penalty to cancel two months in advance. Cancellation with less than two months notice will incur a penalty of 50% of the fee, unless the cancellation is due to weather or other circumstances beyond the control of the school, in which case it is assumed that every reasonable effort will be made to reschedule.
