The Mint Museum’s school programs engage students in inquiry-based experiences with art that strengthen curriculum connections and develop visual literacy skills.
School programs, which include guided tours, gallery sketching, and studio programs, take place at both The Mint Museum Uptown and Randolph.
The Mint Museum Uptown houses the internationally-renowned Mint Museum of Craft + Design, as well as outstanding collections of American, contemporary, and European art.
Housed in what was the original branch of the United States Mint, the Mint Museum Randolph opened in 1936 as the first art museum in North Carolina. Today the Mint features collections that span more than 4,500 years of human creativity from around the world. Visitors engage with the art of the ancient Americas, ceramics and decorative arts, and historic costume.

Engage with and interpret art that depicts African-American culture, history, and traditions in various time periods. Through encounters with various works of art, students will grapple with the question: what does it mean to be African American?
Recommended for grades 3-12, this tour integrates the Common Core Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Studies, as well as the North Carolina Social Studies Standards, with the Visual Arts Standards.
