Based out of Charlotte, NC, Black Bird Studio offers unique art education experiences for students of all ages. Our teaching artists are professional creatives who are passionate about making an impact while sharing what they do best. We offer one-day workshops and multi-day residencies in a variety of mediums that connect to k-12 core curricula. We value high quality final products and we have that vibe that the students just love! We are a multifaceted mobile art studio.

Grant funding from the Arts and Science Council enables us to offer free programs to students across Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools who would not otherwise have access.
Our partnerships with private schools, libraries, cultural centers and community events allow us to reach thousands of students annually.

Photography & Literacy (Grades 3-12)

Program description

DId you know that the word photograph actually means "to write with light?" Students will gain an understanding of how photographers communicate thier ideas through the art of visual storytelling. Student will make powerful images that connect to poems or written narratives. Final products from this program can evolve into exhibits, books, performances and more! This program can be open-ended or it can link to a particular theme such as nature photography or self image.

This program can be customized to suit the needs of each classroom. Program length will vary based on the goals outlined for the program. Two class meetings per group is recommended.

Fees / Ticketing:

Program price will vary based on the vision for the final product and exhibition, number of students impacted, time needed to complete the project and materials required. For example, a simple one-visit program with basic materials will cost $250 on average. A more complex, multiple-visit program will cost $300+. Please contact me today with information on what you want to achieve and I will return a quote to you within three business days.

Fee outline:
$250 – Base fee for program development and implementation of one class visit
$120-$135 – Add-on fee per class to replicate the program for multiple classes
$40 – Average material fee per class (if materials are required)

W2- Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content. W10- Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of tasks, purposes and audiences.

Cancellation Policy

A minimum fee of $100 will be charged for a program cancellation. If supplies were purchased in preparation for the program, the school will be required to reimburse Black Bird Studio.
