Rick Huddle

Rick Huddle is a theater artist, educator, and storyteller. He is a Drammy-winning actor, performing on stage with the Portland Opera, Push Leg, Teatro Milagro, and several productions with Oregon Children’s Theatre. Video credits include the educational outer-space web series The Digits.

He has toured his school assemblies all over the United States, Mexico, Thailand, & Colombia.

He has been a storyteller at the Bay Area Storytelling Festival, the Art of Story, Tapestry of Tales, the National Storytelling Festival- Exchange Place, and is a Moth Story Slam winner.

In summers, he teaches performing arts at Camp Yakety Yak: a camp for children with special needs. In his spare time, you might find him diving for ultimate Frisbees, dancing, or hanging out at a coffee shop.

“I strive to create a safe, playful atmosphere, then challenge students just enough so they’re slightly out of their comfort zone. My classes are fun and energetic to engage the lively students with reflective, solo time for the introverts. I have taught writing, creative dramatics, and storytelling/public speaking residencies at schools in New York and Oregon. Before and after each class session, I check in with teachers to make sure we’re aligned. My classes often follow the “I do, We do, then You do” model of educating.

As a preschool teacher, after-school worker, and camp counselor, I have been trained in, and have used, many different behavioral management & encouragement techniques which I use instinctively during classes. I’ve been trained on “multiple intelligences” and like to make sure I use a variety of methods to communicate ideas (written, oral, kinesthetic.) In 2015, I completed the Young Audiences Teaching Artist Studio training program.”
