Artisan Preparatory

Artisan Preparatory renders creative learning that is engaging, fun and sustainable. Our hands-on curriculum PREPARES each ARTISAN with a ingenious foundation that enriches future educational opportunities.  We believe that artistry is gifted to every student, it is our aspiration to to Capture, Canvas and Cultivate this gift.  Our multidisciplinary programs are flexible in design and attractive to students ranging from birth to seniors, in the indoor and outdoor classrooms. We love to weave STEM, Literature and culture together and make beautiful art.

Artisan Preparatory has served at Montessori, public, private, charter and home schools for the past 20 years in North Carolina, Tennesee, Kentucky, Indiana and Alabama.  Our curriculum is crafted to serve all classrooms.  If you need help designing an enhanced program, please contact our program lead.  We hope to inspire the Artisans at your school in the near future.

Literary ART

Program description

Close your eyes and listen to this story. It’s one they tell back in the old days. As you hear my voice, place the pictures in your head. What are the characters wearing? What motions are they making? What is the landscape like?

During this residency, students receive a dramatized piece of literature that leads them on an amazing journey by a mesmeric story teller. At the end of their journey they are encouraged reminnence their adventure through illustration.  This illustration is available in several art mediums, which may include:  drawing, painting, sculpture and clay.

This residency can be written to serve multicultural literature.

 This residency needs a room with space for storytelling and area with tables for art.

Location(s):

Educational facility.  There is a $50 trip fee outside of Mecklenburg County.

Fees / Ticketing:

$495 for a one-day residency.  This price includes three 45 minute sessions a day.

$1450 for 3-day residency.  This price includes three 45 minute sessions a day. 

Above fees covers watercolor, marker, painting or wire sculpture illustration sessions.  There is a $50 surcharge for ceramic classes.

 

EDUCATION STANDARDS

NC Standard Course of Study:

SL.2 Integrate and evaluate information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally.  Students listen, evaluate and gather oral information from storyteller, with the intent to display it in an art form.

 SL.4 Present information, findings, and supporting evidence such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. Students present their visual epiphany in the form of artwork. They listened to the story and now offer explanation of visualization, organization, reasoning in form of critiques of final pieces.

 SL.5 Make strategic use of digital media and visual displays of data to express information and enhance understanding of presentations. The final piece of artwork provides visual display of student’s interpretation of the literary piece.

NC Essential Standards:

SL4k.44. Report on a topic or text, tell a story, or recount an experience in an organized manner, using appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details to support main ideas or themes; speak clearly at an understandable pace.
RK7:With prompting and support, describe the relationship between illustrations and the story in which they appear (e.g., what moment in a story an illustration depicts).
SL2.11. Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse
partners about grade 2 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.
a. Follow agreed-upon rules for discussions (e.g., gaining the floor in respectful ways, listening to others with care, speaking one at a time about the topics and texts under discussion).
b. Build on others’ talk in conversations by linking their comments to the remarks of others.
c. Ask for clarification and further explanation as needed about the topics and texts under discussion.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations should be made within two 2 weeks of the scheduled event.  A cancellation fee of $250 will be charged per session.
