Catherine Kanvik

Catherine Kanvik has had various careers in art fields. Her first foray into art was Interior Design. She became a consultant and a professor in medical/dental design, teaching students this niche at Harrington College of Design. In recent years, she has gotten certification in Home Staging. She has taught students the skill of aesthetically achieving a quickly sold house. She has taught students from 2 to 92 years of age in a variety of art media. The majority of her career teaching art was in elementary school to PreK-8th grade. Catherine was part of a team who wrote the current art curriculum for the Chicago Archdiocese. She has sat on numerous boards, and been a guest judge many times. She has taught workshops and clinics in alcohol ink painting, encaustic collage, and Mata Ortiz Pottery among others. She is now dedicating time to her own art, and hasn’t met a medium she doesn’t like. Catherine enjoys helping students realize their potential in art. She is encouraging and very mindful of critiquing from an Elements and Principles perspective, as opposed to subjective critique. Her travels have exposed her to cultural art, that she loves to share with her students. She feels that learning about other cultures can bring us all closer to the humanity that we all share.
