Maria Geary is a mixed media and fiber artist based in Durham who works to explore the relationships between lived experiences and current society issues. A ‘creative inspirationalist’, her creative practice and business Relaxing In Art, is a word play of her nickname, ‘Ria. It serves as a reminder that creating art is a form of relaxing. As a teaching artist, she stresses the three R’s: REFLECT, RELATE and RELEASE.

Welcome to Basic Art Journaling! We will embark on a creative adventure to loosen up creative muscles, let go of daily stressors and express ourselves to capture moments, while experimenting with different artistic techniques. In this workshop, we are exploring the harmonious combination of transparent mediums while adding the versatility of aqua brushes to create unique and captivating artworks for your 6 x 9 art journal page.

I will set up in one place and classes will rotate. This can take place wherever you have space such as the cafeteria, gym or library.
