Whether we are dancing, discussing how to protect ourselves from bullies, doing an art project, or learning how to de-stress, when I see the joy on a child’s face, I know I’m in the right place at the right time!

With a background in psychotherapy and articles published in such magazines as Cosmopolitan, Working Woman, and Women’s Day, I’ve conducted workshops for adults and families internationally.
Growing up in Canada, I have a BA degree from a university in Montreal and an MA from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. I also completed three years towards a doctorate.
I began teaching in a private elementary school and on a college level soon after graduation. And I’ve been doing programs for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools’ After School Enrichment Program for over 20 years. Every two years, the committee reviews my proposals and, upon approval, my contract is renewed. I just received a new contract for 2023-2025.
Each program is tailored to suit the needs of the specific group. Content and length are flexible depending on the students’ ages, level of experience, and interests. To continue and deepen the lessons, I can also work with teachers. This is especially useful in the social and emotional learning area.
I include life lessons in my programs. While that is a given in a “Dance to De-stress“ class or a session on self-esteem or dealing with difficult situations, I “sneak” it in with words about diversity and different cultures coming together with my Salsa Line Dance or Clogging for Joy programs. They may forget the steps but, hopefully, they’ll remember that these two dance genres were developed in a spirit of cooperation among various ethnic groups and cultures. When we dance, create art, or listen to music, we are all one.

Students put their creative energies to work and “dance” on paper. Not only do kids move to music but they transform the movement into intuitive abstract drawings while listening. Feeling the visual rhythms within the paper dimensions, it’s not how it looks but what it feels like. Some strokes energize, some create tension, and some relax us.
