Music Making Group: Exceptional Children
Piedmont Music Therapy (PMT) is staffed by board certified music therapists who received a college degree in music therapy and following a clinical internship passed a national board certification exam. Their training included working with children and youth with varying abilities and providing a success oriented experience for them to be included in an academic setting.
Goals such as socialization, self-expression, group cohesion, and fostering arts making are commonly attained through music therapy groups. PMT offers weekly music therapy group sessions for children to be able to make music along side peers, with the music therapist facilitating singing, playing instruments, writing songs, moving to music and more.
Students do not have to have any previous musical experience to benefit from the experiences. Instruments and activities will be adapted for all students to participate and feel supported in a welcomed, therapeutic setting. Past clients of music therapy group programming offered by PMT yielded active participation, an outlet to their creative expression and allowed students to feel empowered within the academic setting. PMT is able to incorporate themes from the partnering organization or school and has woven past themes of holidays, the USA, traveling the world, self esteem and self confidence.
