Dyeing for Art
In this residency, students learn about different kinds of dyes that can be used in artwork. Students use ready made dyes, they also make their own dye out of natural resources. Natural dyes provide a scientific and historical curriculum. This residency also has an African American cultural option.

This residency requires large room or outdoor space with access to water and sink.
Educational facility. There is a $50 trip fee outside of Mecklenburg County.
$495 for a one-day residency. This price includes three 45-minute sessions a day.
$1450 for 3-day residency. This price includes three 45-minute sessions a day.
Above fees cover watercolor, marker, painting or wire sculpture illustration sessions. There is a $50 surcharge for ceramic classes.

1 CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.SL.2 Integrate and evaluate information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally. Students are presented with dyed art pieces by diverse media and formats. They look, listen and design their own dyed art project.
Present information, findings, and supporting evidence such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. Students listened to lesson and produce dyed art. They present their finished work to classmates in the form of critiques.
3 CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.SL.5 Make strategic use of digital media and visual displays of data to express information and enhance understanding of presentations. The final piece of artwork provides visual display of students interpretation of dyed art.
