Express Yourself Club
Students in rising grades 6 – 8 are invited to attend Express Yourself Club with a music therapist from Piedmont Music Therapy. Students will focus on creative outlet in dealing with anxiety and emotional issues. At the school or program site. PMT Staff travels to bring mobile instruction. PMT Clinic off Westinghouse Boulevard may be available if necessary for smaller Ukulele Group.

Reading: R1: Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text (in our case reading and writing song lyrics and applying musical elements to support the song message). Language L2: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing (in our case when writing poetry and song lyrics). Language L5: Demonstrate understanding of figurative language and nuances in word meanings (in our case when interpreting or composing song lyrics).

CCR Anchor Standard RI.9 – Analyze how two or more texts address similar themes or topics in order to build knowledge or to compare the approaches the authors take (in our case through comparing songs with similar themes or content matter).

The 10 club meeting dates will be scheduled around known holidays and school/organization breaks. If scheduled group date needs to be moved then please provide PMT with advanced notice. Rescheduling may not be possible. If a club is cancelled without make-up then 50% of club meeting cost is still due to PMT. If PMT Staff is ill then arrangements will be made to hopefully provide coverage by another PMT Staff Member. If not, then club will have make-up date. Failure to give 24-hour notice as outlined above will result in a “No Show” fee being added to your account. Additionally please understand that the club ends as originally scheduled. Your instructor will wait at least ten minutes after the scheduled club time, before declaring the meeting a “no show.”
