EDUCATION STANDARDS

NC Standard Course of Study:

   R3: Analyze how and why individuals, events, ideas develop and interact (Students develop movements relating to words, ideas, imagery, cadence, etc. and collaborate in the creation of dance phrases.)
   R7: Integrate and evaluate content presented in diverse media and text, including visually and quantitatively, as well as in words (Students interpret poetry and thematic material, imagery, comprehension of various content through dance and choreography.)
  1L and L2: Demonstrate the command of grammar and usage, capitalization, punctuation and spelling (Students create accurate yet creative representations of these conventions through movement.)
   MP4: Model with mathematics (Students demonstrate counting and cardinality, geometry, and fractions within their choreography.)

NC Essential Standards:

   NC Essential Arts Standard: C.1 CONNECTING Strand: applying knowledge of dance in relation to history, culture, heritage, other content areas, ideas, skills and life-long learning. The learner will make connections between dance and other content areas. (Students draw from assigned content areas to create movements, phrases and dance.)
   SCIENCE 5.P.1: Understand force, motion and the relationship between them, 2.E.1: Understand patterns of weather and factors that affect weather 8.E.2: Understand the history of Earth and its life forms based on evidence of change recorded in fossil records and landforms. (Students create choreography representing balance/counterbalance, gravity, momentum, weather, rock cycles, life cycles of plants/butterflies, solids/liquids/gases, sound waves, rotation/revolution, solar system, skeletal/muscular/nervous system, simple machines, Newton’s Laws of Motion.)
   SOCIAL STUDIES 6.C.1: Explain how the behavior and practices of individuals and groups influenced societies, civilizations and regions (Students learn and perform authentic dances from countries around the world relate to social reasoning)
