Photography for Social Change (Grades: 4-12)
This program empowers students to use photography as a tool to inform, engage and create awareness around issues surrounding their communities, schools, the city of Charlotte, and beyond. This program can be completed at The Light Factory or at your school. These programs can also include field-trips if funding allows.
This program can be a multiple day residency and the prices are based on the number of instruction hours and the materials needed for the program.
SL2- Students will integrate and evaluate information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively and orally. For this project, we will share a variety of media images and social media visuals to initiate discussion and contstructive dialogue. W2- write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content. Students will be working through complex ideas visually and will use photography assignments to assist them in expressing themselves articulately. SL1: Students will prepare for an participate effectively in a range of conversations and collaborations with diverse partners, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively. Particularly, students will be connected through photography and will communicate and engage with one another across borders towards a common outcome– an exhibition, field trip, published book, etc.
