Breaking Boundaries (Appropriate for grades 6-12)
Charlotte Ballet’s 2023/2024 Season kicks off with dynamic and exhilarating works that push limits and inspire audiences of all ages. Breaking Boundaries features a brand new work by Mthuthuzeli November, an award-winning choreographer from Cape Town, South Africa. Experience the unconventional masterpiece, Kamuyot, touching “on the mischievous, free, and playful places in all kids – whether they are five or 80 years old. An inspiring and moving experience that allows the audience “to be with” dance and not only watch it.”
Nutcracker (Appropriate for grades K-12)
Celebrate the sights and sounds of the holidays at Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux’s Nutcracker! This unwavering holiday spectacular is complete with extravagant sets and costumes, the treasured Tchaikovsky score and of course, a magnificent snowfall on the Belk Theater stage. Feel the magic in the air as we follow Clara on her timeless adventure to the whimsical Land of Sweets and encounter some familiar friends and foes along the way.
Come to Life (Appropriate for grades 6-12)
Join Charlotte Ballet in the exploration of love, life and loss at Knight Theater. This contemporary performance series features modern works by extraordinary artists. Experience the powerful movements and motions of Jiří Kylián’s Petite Mort. Created for Nederlands Dans Theater in honor of the second centenary of Mozart’s death, the piece plays on the double entendre of ‘little death’ set to the music by the legendary composer. This series will also present Artistic Director Alejandro Cerrudo’s Little Mortal Jump – a work that welcomes audiences to forget the happenings of today and tomorrow and instead transport them to the overwhelmingly wonderful moment of now. Don’t let their titles fool you – these works are anything but little. Rounding out the program is a brand new work by award-winning choreographer Penny Saunders, who has created over 20 contemporary pieces.
Swan Lake (Appropriate for grades K-12)
A story filled with romance, tragedy, grace and betrayal. For the first time ever, Charlotte Ballet presents one of the world’s most beloved classical ballets that has transcended generations, Swan Lake. The timeless story focuses on Prince Siegfried as he falls in love with Odette, a woman who has been cursed by evil sorcerer Baron von Rothbart to be a swan by day and human by night. You won’t want to miss the spectacular choreography by Ib Andersen, paired with Tchaikovsky’s beautiful score.
