Program Description

Students will check-in and enjoy a guided tour of our current exhibitions with a Docent. The Docent will provide in depth information on the history of the Gantt center and all of the current art exhibitions.

Fees / Ticketing:

Self & Guided Tours for Title I Schools are free of charge.

Guided Tours for Non-Title I School are $7.00 per student.

EDUCATION STANDARDS

NC Standard Course of Study:

School tours are available to elementary, middle, high school and college students. Tours at the Gantt Center are designed to help students and teachers use observation and critical thinking skills to gain a deeper understanding of the cultural and historical context of the artwork on display. These visits address the following Common Core and North Carolina Essential Standards:

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.3-12.1 – Reading Standards for Informational Text – Key Ideas and Details
  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.3-12.7 – Reading Standards for Informational Text – Integration of Knowledge and Ideas
  • Contextual Relevancy – K-12.CX.1 Understand the global, historical, societal, and cultural contexts of the visual arts.
  • History – K-12.H.1 Understand that history tells a story of how people and events changed society over time and how various sources provide information about the past.
  • Speaking and Listening – K-12.SL.1 Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 1 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.
  • Culture – 2-12.C.2.1 Explain how artistic expressions of diverse cultures contribute to the community

Cancellation Policy

Please note: if your group arrives more than 15 minutes late for a scheduled guided tour, we may not be able to accommodate the group and your tour may be self-guided or you may receive an abbreviated tour.  There is a fee of $150 if you cancel less than 72 hours prior to visit.
